Travel Magazines
Every airport brings about another stack of travel magazines. With all the travel magazines that I have, and keep, I have never found a bad one. They are packed with information, experiences and ideas on travel for both business and pleasure. I have found thru reading them that my travel experiences have been greatly enhanced by trying something new, being more informed about the area I am in, or bringing a new idea to mind for an adventure. It also has helped me be better prepared in many situations as well as sometimes what to stay away from. They are also great for those reading stress relief situations.
Magazines make great gifts. Easy to shop for, saving you time and there is a magazine available for every interest. I have a friend that didn't get out much and yet always wanted to travel. I sent her a gift subscription to Budget Travel and Carribean Travel & Life. Every month they came, every month she thought about it again, every month she came up with another excuse, and finally, they arrived one month and she had run out of excuses. Needless to say, it only took one trip for her to see what she had been missing and now she travels on a regular basis.
Magazines are also great for dropping that hint to that special someone. See an issue or a magazine that has that perfect place you have always wanted to go? Buy it and leave it laying open to that page where they are sure to find it. If its a cruise or the carribean or anywhere else that has a full subscription magazine, have the subscription sent to them. Every month they will get the reminder. Sneaky, but it just might work.
I decided to go on a search to see if there were any travel magazines I had not yet read, because I thought I had seen them all. I was wrong. There are a few I hadn't read before, and I'm sure more and more will go into circulation in the future. Travel has become a very popular subject this century.
Transitions Abroad was most excellent. I have always enjoyed trips where I was not in the middle of tourism central. I really like getting to really know the place and people I am visiting. Otherwise, it seems like you are at the same chain restaurant, same bar, same beach, blah, blah, blah. This magazine points out the opportunities available to do that. It also is very informative for the student or volunteer wanting to go abroad on a budget.
Timeshare Global is a necessity for those owning a time share. I don't own one, but, I kind of wished I did when I was done with this magazine. I have friends and family that have time shares, and I have heard good and evil about them. Since I have not personally experienced any difficult times with timeshares, and have enjoyed stays with family and friends through their timeshares, I don't believe I am qualified to comment on it. I will say that I may start looking into one. With this magazine, timeshare owners can network with each other, exchange, buy and sell timeshares, and learn alot of travel information about the timeshare areas.
The third new magazine I tried was Travel 50 & Beyond. This magazine is geared more toward the leisure traveler over the age of 50. Its content was very interesting and it was packed with great advise on how to take advantage of discounts available to the 50 and up traveler. Almost, key word, almost, made me want to be older. I think this would be a wonderful magazine for the traveler 50 and over.
Below I have listed all of my favorite travel magazines. I have stacks and stacks of them at home. Maybe I should try selling them second hand on ebay? That is an interesting thought. Magazines can be quite pricey when you buy them by the issue, so if you find one that you really like, I suggest purchasing the subscription to it. My absolute favorite is Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel. At $4.50 an issue, and 10 in a year, that's about $45.00 newstand price. I can get all 10 for less than $12, now that's a steal. 10 for less than the price of 3. Pick up a single issue at your local newstand or bookstore. If you really like it, get the subscription. Subscription purchase is available below also.
